Agiblocks for Sugar
The sweetest of commodities, is also a commodity market with a significant amount of complexity. Sugar is traded on different markets and traders, merchandisers and consumers use different specs as a basis for their operations. Then to make it even more complex, beverage industries – by nature large sugar consumers – have set their own specs and some of these specs are used as trading terms between counter-parties as well. (For example the Coca Cola spec).
Sugar contracts reflect standard production output specs. There are four sugar contracts, on four sugar markets, and sugar is priced based on terminal markets. Furthermore, actual pricing reflects purity (the so called Polarization Premium). Sugar (by contrast to for example, coffee or cocoa) is a semi-finished product (the result of manufacturing or processing) and because of that, can require extra handling.
As a Sugar trader or purchaser, it is key to be able to manage, trade and arbitrage upon and between these markets; in particular the so-called ‘White Premium’, based on the difference between the rates of raw and white sugar. Furthermore, the market is evolving from originally being a predominantly bulk market to a container market. For this reason it is important to have specialized CTRM for sugar businesses.
Agiblocks Subscription for Sugar
Agiblocks offers functionality to manage this complexity, for example, the White Premium has functionality that allows efficient logistics management of both, bulk and container trade. Agiblocks by Subscription is offered in a standard Sugar industry configuration. When you are trading or procuring raw or white sugar the configuration is ready for use. We have included standard trading terms, terminal markets for raw (NY) and white (LDN) including the new container contract at ICE, and the configuration addresses Origins, Quality, Certification and Packaging properties and even includes documents templates adjusted to current industry practices. The more advanced subscriptions even offer functionality for white premium pricing.
Agiblocks for Coffee
Coffee has its specific characteristics on the physical and trading side. Examples of the physical characteristics of coffee are origins, grades, screen sizes or the amount of black and broken beans. On the trading side an additional complexity is that terminal markets are denominated in different units of measure (MT and LBS) to the trading and merchandising side that is based on MT, LBS and Bags.
There is an awful lot of coffee in the world, and there are also a wide variety of trading practices in the world as well. These trading practices are different in different geographical regions and vary with the type of trade performed by merchandise companies (ex. shipping bulk coffees versus shipping bags of specialty coffee). Besides trading practices, the variety of distribution models requires a lot of flexibility in terms of logistic models, some of them comprise splitting and/or combining of containers, truckloads or even pallets.
This coffee complexity, physical characteristics, quality information (including cupping data, and sample data) is easily managed in Agiblocks. In a world of volatile coffee prices, hedging and risk management are important even on small volumes. Hedging and hedge allocation in Agiblocks is supported at a portfolio level, but also on a specific contract or even a number of bags or boxes. Agiblocks offers agile logistic functionality that caters for the whole supply chain; from green bean origination up to bag or box distribution.
Agiblocks Subscription for Coffee

Agiblocks for Cocoa & Cocoa Products
Trading Cocoa and Cocoa Products
Cocoa origination – sometimes called sourcing, cocoa trade and cocoa processing are complex processes partly due to the specific sourcing regions and partly due to the physical characteristics of the commodity itself. On top of that, the cocoa commodity has a specific trading logic of its own, being traded on multiple changes in multiple currencies and the physical commodity has very specific attributes such as bean size, infestation, certification, and so on. The chocolate industry also consumes semi-finished products, which are derived from the cocoa beans, such as cocoa powder, cocoa butter, cakes and cocoa liqueurs. These semi-finished products usually are traded, priced and/or hedged based on ratios versus the original cocoa bean.
